Three days in Krakow

So why have we prepared this brochure for our visitors? We do not promise that the newcomer will be able to visit Krakow in 3 days. The tourist has a lot to learn: the multitude of historical monuments that make up the historical fabric of the city, the rich artistic and cultural life, the magical atmosphere that makes the locals and visitors have countless opportunities to slow down, stop, look ... At the same time Krakow is perhaps the only Among the well-known historical cities in which even a short visit can give you many impressions and feelings of full, undefiled satisfaction.

And that's what we want to offer you. Such a look at Krakow, which will make you feel the atmosphere of the city, sometimes lazy, sometimes full of events, but always unique. Let's try to look at Cracow together, see how best to spend the three days here - and see why we'll be coming back here.

Arrival and climate

It is easy to reach Krakow - it was always at the crossroads of important trade routes, at the crossroads of cultures and political influences, and today it is recognized as the most important tourist destination in Poland. The network of rail, road and air connections, Balice - the second largest and the number of airport passengers in the country - makes Krakow one of the most easily accessible cities in this part of Europe. Further facilities - from the A4 motorway via attractive links with the world provided by low cost airlines, to the special railway line which brings travelers from Balic to the city center and the expanded network of public transport - open up a host of opportunities for tourists coming from closer and further corners of the world. Their stay in Cracow may look different, not only in relation to the purpose of arrival or accommodation, but also depending on the weather, the day of the week and the seasons (winter temperatures in Poland sometimes fall below -20 ° C, in summer temperatures often exceed 30 ° C ).

It is worth remembering that Kraków is the capital of Małopolska - highland, in the mountainous part of the region with many spa, recreational and agritourism resorts. Both summer and winter visit to the city so easy to combine with leisure in the mountains.

Live comfortably

Krakow has the best tourist base in Poland, adapted to the needs of tourists with a variety of wallets. In the center and its immediate vicinity there are several dozen high-standard hotels, including the world's largest chains. On the other hand - there are many intimate objects located just off the Main Market Square, allowing you to start sightseeing immediately after breakfast. The rich offer of hostels and apartments, especially popular in Krakow's Kazimierz district, allows you to find affordable accommodation at any time of the year.

Almost all of these places have free Internet access - just like in many Krakow cafes and restaurants - and in selected areas of the city you can use the wireless connection provided by the Cracovian local government free of charge. Additional hands-free mobile applications (for GPS devices and bluetooth technology) are available for free in the city. They also play an important role in the innovative route in Poland - the Royal Road for Disabled Tourism - equipped with facilities for tourists with mobility disorders and the blind and visually impaired. By default, all such services are available in at least 2 languages (Polish and English).

It is worth mentioning that, due to the unprecedented concentration of tourist attractions, the distance between them (within the Old Town and Kazimierz) is easy to walk with, and in such a case a dense tram network provides the possibility of rapid travel from point to point - in hours The summit usually works better than with the help of a taxi. Ticket machines located at key stops are also carriers of up-to-date, basic tourist information.

Currently the following tourist routes are marked:

The paths of John Paul II, Royal Road, Royal Road for the disabled tourist, University Route, Jewish Heritage Route, St. The route of the history of the Podgorze, the Ghetto - the Route of Remembrance 1941-1943, the Trail of the Fortress of Krakow, the Krakow Technology Trail, the Krakow Trail of Saints and three tourist and cultural district routes: Bronowice, Prądnik Czerwony and Swoszowice.

University route

In 2000, the Jubilee celebrated 600 years of renewal of the Jagiellonian University, the oldest Polish university. In 1400 Władysław Jagiełło revived the University, founded as the Academy of Krakow in 1364 by Casimir the Great. It is the oldest university in Central Europe after Prague. From him the intellectual thought radiated across Europe. The Golden Age is the time of Kraków's greatest glory, the shaping of the currents of humanism and the Reformation, defining the future of the identity of the city. Students of the Jagiellonian University were among others. Nicholas Copernicus, whose heliocentric theory became an epochal discovery, and Karol Wojtyla, later elected to the papal office (John Paul II).

The Jagiellonian University is at the forefront of Polish universities and plays a leading role among the 17 Cracow universities. The most important universities of the city include the AGH University of Science and Technology, the Cracow University of Technology, the Academy of Economics and the Academy of Fine Arts - the oldest art school in Poland. There are almost 100 research institutes in the city. The oldest scientific institution is the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences, existing since 1816.

Royal Road for Disabled Tourism

The first mock-up on the route is a mock-up of the Barbican with fragments of the city walls situated next to the walls on the side of the Barbican. The next one is situated near the Floriańska Gate from the Old Town (depicting the whole area of the Old Town, marking the Royal Route and its most important monuments). Another is the bas-relief of Jan Matejko's face placed on his house at ul. Florianska. The fourth presents St. Mary's Basilica and stands on pl. Mariacki. The fifth one is located on the right side of the entrance to the Town Hall Tower (depicting the Town Hall from the end of the 18th century).

Another mock-up on the route is a mock-up of the Cloth Hall - the present state (under the arcades opposite the St. Mary's Basilica); Cloister syndrome oo. Franciscans (at the entrance to the basilica from the square under the papal window), stained glass "God the Father - stand up!" Hotel standards

Room facilities depends to a large extent on the standard of the hotel, which is the number of stars.
Below I described briefly the most frequently encountered types of rooms, but keep in mind that this is not a rule, and every economy hotel has the right to change the individual. Depending on the country, region, or of course the hotel facilities may vary and differ slightly from those described cases.
Standard
Standard equipment hotel room is a bed, a bedside table or shelf at any place to sleep, wardrobe or built-in niche dresser, desk or table, mirror, wall hanger for outer clothing, lamp. In addition, the room may be such features as television, telephone, radio, etc.The equipment must also be basic bathroom - equipped differently, depending on the standard of the hotel in which you expect to accessories such as towels, soaps set for each person, and in hotels a higher standard hairdryers, scales and a set of other amenities.
Family
Family rooms (abbreviation: FAM) is usually extended version of a standard room.Guest of this type have a larger surface area. Equipment does not differ significantly from that described above - but can be adapted to receive more visitors. (Eg. Larger wardrobe, more chairs, a larger bathroom).
Apartments
Apartments (abbreviation: APT) are rooms of standard equipment, additionally equipped with a kitchenette, dishes and cutlery. Within these rooms, you can prepare your own meals. In some cases, they may even consist of 2 separate rooms (eg. Children).

Alone or in a group

As a small child riding with his parents to the sea or a general holiday I did not take into account such thing as an overnight hotel - parents have always sought out some of your accommodation or obdzwaniali every possible friend in order to find something as cheap but available.
So it was convinced to private guest rooms - but by the time. It is true that the rooms metric area look like a standard hotel room, sometimes as it will have a bathroom in the room - often it may be, however, coed bathroom and toilet in the corridor. And of course, minimal kitchen in which to stand in the queue will get dinner - no to ourselves Cook.
The hotel in the center of the already well known to everyone - but the standard is higher as a result - more expensive prices for accommodation. As for the guest rooms you will get a price from 20 to 50 zł per person / night in a hotel as the price rather come about 150-300 zł (I'm talking about the hotels were booked there for no Hiltons or Marriotts). In this room you usually enter max 2-3 people how good I'll try. It goes as far - to the fact that most often you eat breakfast or already in the city and refuse it for 50 PLN in the hotel's cafeteria.
In my personal opinion expeditions larger group of very economically old town apartments overlook - those in which I spent some nights are usually able to accommodate so for 5-6 people. In addition to, of course, a kitchen with all the selection, the most common bathroom with bath (there are studies with a bathtub and shower in one room) and one million sofas, beds, etc. that everyone quietly accommodated. The fact that you're on your order something to eat or do yourself but for me this type of apartments at 300 zł come out reasonably well priced on the head. :)

The costs of changes in the apartment

The scope of work and the cost of repair depends on whether you decide to change the "cosmetic" (refresh the walls and floors, change the battery) or greater interference in the bathroom space - transfer toilets to the new location, the resignation of the tub to shower.
Bet on the similarities. When you depend only on improving the beauty of interior, select the appliances installed in the same way as before, similar in shape, dimensions. This will avoid rework the installation. Keep in mind that similar does not mean the same. Choose modern solutions - the battery saving water, hot Silenced, toilet bowl without internal upstand, under which accumulate bacteria. Tiles do not have to teach the walls to the ceiling. Just above the sink, around the tub, shower. In other places to check the waterproof paint.
Open a new one. To rework or replacement of plumbing, heating and electrical hire a professional. Determine the optimal height of the mouth of the pipe to the battery concealed (100-120 cm), will be remembered by 2 percent. drop tube toward the drain, the maximum distance from the vertical drainage equipment. Before renovation, consult the plans with the architect or interior designer. This will avoid mistakes.

Small student spaces

If you do not like the open space in the apartment, you can consider placing a wall , double-sided rack, the screen, sliding doors or panels, which przysłonisz bed, a kitchen and a work area. What to remember when panels? You can do it with a light-transmitting sounds, attractive prices of materials, eg. Acrylic or fabric or paper - tight on the frame. The heavier, more stable, but also are more expensive furniture panels, solid wood, metal or glass. Installation should consult an expert. Lighter panels simply mounting rail ceiling level with a roller system chassis. Heavier, for stabilization, useful lower rail. In both cases, you need to take care of perfectly equal sufi t and the floor, allowing hassle-free moving plates. To panels occupy less space in the folded position, it is mounted rail  (for each panel a separate track). You can also opt for telescopic system hidden in the wall. The panel slips in August for the second panel and the two goes to a specially built enclosed cassette plate g-k.
Even the space under the window or the door can be used to build a library or office. Look at the space as a mathematician. Measure each wall, designating the new features of the room. Salon can serve you to relax, sleep, work, office, storage. How do you hold? The secret lies in the lockers and multifunctional furniture (for more information on the following pages) unchargeable should have its own light source, and some even a few (over the island, the kitchen cupboards etc.). Well, by the direction and its intensity can be adjusted. This will create a climate, facilitate the work, will highlight a particular part of the room.

Grodzka Street

Place / Address:
From the Market Square
Wawel Castle

Grodzka Street is one of the oldest in Krakow. There was even before the foundation of the town in 1257. The organizers of the trade route north-south. Later was part of the so-called. salt route, leading to Wieliczka, Myślenice and continue until Hungary. Initially, the street ended at the fortification Okol - the former settlement between Wawel Castle and Krakow foundation charter - much older than the Krakow. This border was probably in the vicinity of today's street Senate.

Its initial section - at the Market Square - is characterized by a characteristically deformed projection, due to the location of the church of St. Wojciech standing still in the fourteenth century on a slight hill. The course and the width of the street has not changed since the Middle Ages. The exception is the section of the market - pl. Dominican, where the great fire (1850.), Withdrawn face reconstructed houses even frontage, thus extending the street a few meters.

When in the fourteenth century included eventually Krakow was the integration of urban and organize the two separated parts of so far today Grodzka Street, closed at the foot of the castle Grodzka Gate. Already in the fourteenth century building it was a brick street, and its shape - visible to this day - was established at the beginning of the end of the sixteenth century. It was then that her current name covered the entire street.
Grodzka Street is one of the most famous streets after the street. St. Florian. It is at these two streets you can meet a lot of apartments for rent. You can accomodation here beacuse there're lots of places for room rent.

Luxury apartments

When we hear the word "penthouse" appears to us it as an exclusive suite, a sumptuous space filled with luxury, inhabited by the wealthiest citizens. However, was not always so. There is always the penthouse was the determinant of prestige. By mid-century, it functioned as a residence for the poorest. Interiors apartments on the top floors of the building were inhabited by people of lower social classes. Among the wealthy dominated interior design located on the first and second floor, because it did not have to overcome a lot of steps to get to them. Penthouse took on a completely different meaning at a time when the United US popularized the elevator. Then the interior design with panoramic views of the city became interested in the richest and most famous.

"Penthouse" - as it is called luxury apartments, which are located on the top floors of investments. Usually, in the central districts of the city. The interiors of apartments are characterized by a higher standard and opulence in a positive sense. None of them splendor and richness. Reigns there rather fashionable and practical minimalism, which is the guarantee of interior space at the highest level. Looking at the interior design projects in the style of penthouses, it can be concluded that these are properties that combine practicality housing intimacy detached houses.

A suitable location for accommodation

Who decides to stay in the eastern part of the Polish should not have any problems with finding suitable accommodation. Some of the western and central part, it seems that the east is cold and bears roaming the streets. It is the same Polish and everywhere. Who does not believe this should immediately go to this place. Accommodation can invent the Internet. It will be difficult to decide where to go, but because the world is hundreds of kilometers east. We know the main cities like Rzeszow, Lublin and Bialystok, but these cities are dozens. Each has something interesting to offer. If we wanted to start our journey from top to bottom of the map is not enough we vacation. Certainly nature, that there is will be an attraction for young and old. The man at some time needs to get some rest and relax in total silence. Nature Reserves that are there are perfect. As we are lucky that we can meet any animal, which never live we have not seen. Accommodation in the East is very high. You can safely choose something suitable for everyone. Hotels, motels, guesthouses, campsites and even camping. This is precisely the east Polish. If we talk about hotels and places for accommodation in Krakow's for sure I can safely recommend the rooms at ul. Grodzka or the Old Town.

Hostels and hotels ?

At various mountain trails now very often seen backpackers hostels. With the holiday in the mountains, it is always worth before embarking on a tour view a list of such facilities. First of all, except that they support tourism, it provides rest and refuge even in the event of adverse weather facilities. Hostels are obliged to ensure accommodation of every tourist. In addition, it also places the information, rental outfits tourist or duty office of emergency services. Stopping the accommodation in such places has a lot of advantages. One of the biggest is their preferred location. Many shelters are located at the main tourist routes. They are so right places and at rest as well as output in the area. I mentioned this version of accommodation because the southern Polish easiest and cheapest for this type of place. However, it is good to see the page booking.com and there opt for something specific. Why is that? And because ... I organized this year for yourself and your friends accommodation in Krakow's Old Town to be anywhere near. And, at the beginning we considered whether it is to be guest house, hotel, hostel or apartment. But in the end we decided on a small apartment and we are very proud of this choice - because the perfect location is sometimes essential.

The boarding house a few words

If a city does not have the hotel very often can be there to meet pensions. We can say that this is a building very similar to the economy hotel. Very often such a building is inconspicuous from the outside, but inside you might be surprised what you see. Some hotels that have four or more stars have no such furnishing. Today, if you want to get a client you have to go out in front of his requirements. If someone goes to the pension he would like not only to relax but also to have some treatments that will allow him to feel even better. Spa, health and beauty salon in such facilities is essential and no one should come as no surprise. Someone asks about the price and here, unfortunately, is sometimes different. If cheap accommodation it will be for the additional services you will have to pay a lot. Nothing is for free and if you want a man to feel better, because it must also feel less money in their pockets. Definitely worth a visit such places because they are very comfortable. Once I was going to go to the guesthouse and so it did. Indeed, I was fascinated with the amount of interest which I was accused. The room in which I was stylishly decorated as most of the apartments by what I felt comfortable. Part of guest rooms occupied large spaces with what I learned in one of the mountainous B - by what you were made to feel at home. Most often they are found in the regions more spas, but it all depends on the demand in this region for such pensions. Man how comfortable the island are immediately feels better and has a greater zest for life.

Pucheroki

Pucheroki (puchery, pueri, from Latin. Puer means boy) is a custom celebrated on Palm Sunday in Krakow and its surroundings.
This custom derives from the ancient kwest Cracow students. Prohibition walking "on pueri" was released in 1780 and then took his boys from the village near Krakow . Early in the morning on Palm Sunday, dressed boys go from house to house. Dressed in fur reversed sheepskin on top, they wear on their heads high, conical caps with colored tissue paper, Smole faces with soot. In the belt are tied powrósłami. In one hand they have a basket of chaff in the second - wooden hammer with a long handle, a braided tissue paper.
Singing, wishing Easter Resurrection, deliver orations, which combine elements of old songs Lent, Christmas carols kantyczkowych, comic dialogues and nursery rhymes. At the same time they celebrate the chamber around, tapping the floor pucherskimi sticks (shaped hammers or Siekierki) and recite ec.
They receive for food, especially eggs and small donations, which are collected in the basket.

My first hitchhiking

My first trip hitchhiking took place at Woodstock but I was a little scared that we do not know who will go or what might happen. The next such trip was from Krakow to Warsaw. I was not afraid even then the drivers and the whole situation, only that no one will take me and get discouraged. As it turned out all sat in my head and fears were unjustified. Warsaw I arrived very quickly and then have to domciu. The holiday let in the old town in Krakow stayed overnight one night after which he went hitchhiking to Warsaw where he spent another night in the luxury apartment the next day I came home. A much more appreciate the many transports travel  accommodation in the apartments because I can count on the great atmosphere of the place and certainly more than in the standard location for example. vacation flats  in centre. Okay but autostopie .. Why?Why go hitchhiking?
• It is because hitch-hiking is an adventure. It's the cheapest and easiest way to experience something different in life.
 • Certainly economy. Rideshare is usually free and you can do without a large sum of money to go anywhere. If the journey is expected to be several zł it is worth to play well with BlaBlaCar.
• You begin to love life. You begin to appreciate the beautiful moments of happiness need little, and driving a car delight in views of the window. You get a simple human kindness and you begin to believe, however, that this world is not so bad.
 • Do you recognize the people and is very much diverse people of great character and very quickly you find out whether you prefer to talk or say nothing. Although you bringing along to The Hitchhiker rather they belong to the bad apples. :)
